The new points start from the front with the lion’s canine-style positioning LEDs that extend down the front bumper, thus giving the 308 a resemblance to recent Peugeot products. The front grille is inspired by recently updated SUVs like the 3008 and 5008 and is surrounded by thin matrix LED headlights for the GT and GT Pack versions.
The rear lights are made up of 3 segments corresponding to 3 lion’s claws using completely LED technology, combined with a glossy black decorative array connecting the two sides. Olivine Green and Vertigo Blue are the signature colors of the new generation, but customers will also be able to get the new 308 in Elixir Red, White Banquise Gray, Pearl White, Black Perla Nera and Artense (silver) colors. Wheel size options from 16 – 18 inches depending on the version.
The Peugeot 308 2021 is also bigger than the previous generation. The current overall length is 4,360 mm, 110 mm longer than before, the wheelbase is extended by 55 mm to 2,675 mm for more rear legroom. Contributing to the sleeker styling is the lowered roofline as the height has been reduced by 20 mm to 1,440 mm, allowing Peugeot to reduce the drag coefficient to 0.28.
Inside, the high-end versions have a 10-inch digital display behind the wheel that comes with a central touchscreen of the same size. The touch-key controls are easily accessible, combined with other shortcut buttons located below the home screen. You still get some physical toggle switches just below for faster processing.
From the wireless charging dock and ambient 8-color LED interior luminaires to a 10-speaker Focal sound system and power-adjustable seats, the Peugeot 308 2021’s interior has all the benefits you would expect from a compact and affordable hatchback. There’s even a Clean Cabin function that filters air and pollutant particles while displaying the air quality on the main screen.
Although the all-new 308 has increased in size, the cargo capacity has decreased slightly, from 420 liters to 412 liters. Fold the rear seats and increase the volume to 1,323 liters. Additional cargo holds have been installed throughout the cabin, providing an additional 34 liters of storage space.
Based on the EMP2 platform, the new generation Peugeot 308 will be equipped with a turbocharged 3-cylinder engine and adjustable output efficiency to 2 different levels. The 1.2-liter petrol engine will produce 110 and 130 horsepower combined with an optional six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. With diesel fuel, the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine has a capacity of 130 horsepower.
There will also be two plug-in hybrid variants, front-wheel drive with an eight-speed automatic transmission, a 12.4 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 110 hp in both cases. The difference between these two variants will be the petrol engine, which develops 150 hp in the lower profile and 180 hp for the stronger version. Total combined output will be 180 hp and 225 hp. Both are capable of running entirely on electricity under proper conditions will be 60 km.
Made in France at Stellantis’ Mulhouse plant, the Peugeot 308 2021 will go on sale in Europe in the second half of this year.
