Kia recently officially introduced a 7-seat version of the Sonet model for the Indonesian market called the Sonet 7, adding an option for users who want to own a 3-row SUV at an affordable price.
In Indonesia, the Kia Sonet has an overall length of 4,120 mm, a width of 1,790 mm and a height of 1,642 mm. This 7-seater version has a 2,500 mm wheelbase. While the width, height and wheelbase are exactly the same as the Indian Sonet, the Sonet for the Indonesian market has an overall length of more than 125mm. That gave Kia enough room to add a third row of seats without making any design changes. Kia Sonet 7 has an exterior design that looks identical to the 5-seater version in every angle.
Notable changes are concentrated inside the cabin. Kia Sonet 7 is added 2 seats in the luggage compartment, occupying the entire space of the rear trunk. That means if you have to use the trunk, users will have to fold the third row down.
To move into the third row, users must fold the second row down with a 60:40 folding ratio. In fact, the space on the third row of seats will not be ample because the wheelbase of the car will not increase. This row is only suitable for children. It also doesn’t serve practical purposes as you’ll have to choose between the luggage compartment or the third row of seats.
In addition, the interior of the Kia Sonet 7 is exactly the same as that of the 5-seater Sonet, from the dashboard design to the equipment list. The Kia Sonet 7 is also equipped with features such as an infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, in-car UVO Connect features, and copper clusters. Digital meter, 7-speaker Bose sound system, wireless smartphone charger and interior LED lighting system.
Another big difference on the Sonet for the Indonesian market is that it is only equipped with a 1.5L petrol engine, four cylinders, naturally aspirated instead of 3 engine options like the version for the Indian market. . This 1.5L petrol engine produces a maximum capacity of 115 hp and maximum torque of 144 Nm, combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or an IVT automatic transmission. Kia Sonet 7 is produced in India, then exported to Indonesia.
The 7-seat Kia Sonet starts at Rs 199,500,000 ($ 13,630), a very attractive price for customers who prefer a 7-seat SUV.
