Andy Wallace is known to everyone as a racer, along with a veteran test driver of Bugatti, who has created many records with this car company. Before coming to Bugatti, Andy Wallace was a veteran racer for 30 years. He has participated in both Le Mans 24h and Daytona 24h, the two most famous WEC races in the world a total of 21 times. In those attempts, he once won Le Mans with Silk Cut Jaguar in 1988, three times at Daytona 24h and twice at Sebring at 12 o’clock.
In addition to racing career, Wallace is also known for controlling the McLaren F1 that creates the fastest top speed for a commercial supercar in the year with a speed of 386.4 km / h in 1998. In the summer Last year, he also set another speed record with Bugatti, bringing the Chiron Super Sport 300+ to 482.8 km / h, becoming the fastest commercial supercar at the moment.
With Bugatti, he is the person who knows the Chiron best in the world, he has spent more than 150,000 km with this car since the project started to date. With the Chiron, it can be recommended by many experts, steering wheel around the world but no one will be able to understand and give you a detailed view than Andy.
1. General study
First of all, let’s take a look at this Bugatti Chiron once more. Chiron is one of the most terrible cars on the market, it uses W16 engine, 8.0 liter capacity and four turbochargers, generating 1,500 horsepower and 1,600 Nm of torque. The car can reach a top speed of 420 km / h and accelerate to 100 km / h in just 2.4 seconds. At low speeds, the engine only works with half the cylinders with two turbochargers, when the required rpm is reached, the entire engine and turbocharger will be put into use.
Because it is a fast car, very fast, the Bugatti Chiron needs a braking system good enough to hold the power. The ceramic – carbon brake system that Bugatti equips the car can hold back up to 5,000 horsepower, according to Andy, combined with the rear wing to help the car stop in the most stable way. The Chiron is also one of the toughest chassis cars in the world.
Bugatti uses a set of tires 285/30 R20 and 355/25 R21 respectively for the front and rear wheels, the largest set of tires on commercial vehicles. According to Andy, the tires, along with the car’s full-time four-wheel drive system, are so good that when he uses the gearbox and runs out of gas, the car still doesn’t slip! At a maximum speed of 420 km / h, the force acting on this tire is extremely large, about 1,000 times its weight.
Unlike the top notch performance, the Chiron’s interior gives a bit of the luxury GT’s direction. Instead of omitting the interior, using racing seats, … to make the car lighter, Bugati decided to create the Chiron’s cockpit with the most expensive and perfect materials available on the market. The Chiron’s cockpit is surprisingly spacious and comfortable, has enough trunk to hold small suitcases and bags, and has cup holders like luxury cars.
There is no screen inside, instead, the four center knobs will take over the entire role of adjusting inside the cockpit. Parameters, entertainment systems, directions, cameras and more will be displayed through two screens located on either side of the vehicle’s speedometer.
3. Driving mode
On the steering wheel, two blue buttons are equipped below, one is the trigger button, the other is the steering mode button. On the Chiron, Bugatti equips the car with four driving modes (5 on Chiron Pur Sport with Sport Plus mode): EB (standard), Autobahn (high speed), Handling and Top Speed activated with Speed Key .
EB is the most basic and automatic mode of the car, you can use it every day, any time. When the car reaches a speed of 180 km / h, the system will automatically switch from EB to Autobahn mode. In the Autobahn, the car’s center of gravity will be lowered by 20 mm, along with that, the rear spoiler will activate an additional 10 degree angle, the steering wheel and suspension will be stiffer, giving the car better stability when running at high speed. With this mode, the driver can reach speeds of 380 km / h.
Handling mode gives the car the ability to make full use of its aerodynamics and pressure to make it go faster on the track. In this mode, you can even drift and draw a few tire lines down the road even though this is a car using all-wheel drive.
4. Launch Control
Launch Control function on Bugatti Chiron can be activated easily via the “LC” button on the steering wheel. Press the button, the left foot on the brake, the right foot on the gas, and you can do a Launch Control on your three million dollar vehicle. With the ability to provide maximum torque in the range of 2,000 to 7,000 rpm, you don’t need to go into the gas too much for the car to go.
5. Speed Key
Finally, we have Top Speed mode activated via the Speed Key, similar to the predecessor Veyron. This key is located on the left side of the driver’s seat, next to the key lock. When you want to test the speed of 420 km / h, the driver just needs to insert the key into the drive at the door sill and activate. The car will automatically check all systems to ensure that it is safe enough to reach that speed, after the clock is complete, you are ready to go above 400 km / h. After satisfying the sense of speed, just lightly put your foot on the brake, the speed fades away, as if it never existed, only the feeling of staying!
